CoaXPress protocol viewer

In machine vision interface standard CoaXPress^® has almost established due to several Plugfest all over the world. This standard is quite likely to be the successor of CameraLink® in high speed frame grabber applications as:

• open and free standard is available here: CXP standard
• available RG59 cables can be used with length up to 200m at 1.25GBit data rate
• low cost FPGA interface solution are available
• single cable solution with power, communication and data transmission on the same cable
• standard connectors, cables, cameras, frame grabbers are available

The CXP protocol viewer is around to support developers with a software interface, so that CXP data can be visualised like GigE Vision® data with Wireshark®. To achieve this we have design, which imports CXP data grabbed from the CXP cable into Wireshark and visualizes the data with a simple dissector. The elements of this design are:

• XILINX SP605 reference board with CXP single lane RX and TX interface and 96MByte of CXP data storage space
• simple C software on SP605 to set up CXP trigger and data acquisition
• Petalinux CXP to PC software to transfer CXP data over FTP to the Wireshark PC
• PC based Wireshark dissector to display up- and downlink data
• the CXP protocol viewer software is a deliverable for any CXP FPGA core from Sensor to Image
